22/08/2012 - British Tumbling Champion 2012

The British Tumbling Championships was held at the N.I.A.Birmingham over 7th & 8th July 2012.

Southampton gymnastics club entered a young tumbler, Charlie Arbuthnot in the boys, 13-14 age group. He performed two tumble runs of eight tumbling elements in the preliminaries going through to the finals in third position. On the day of the finals, Arbuthnot increased the difficulty in both his tumble passes, performing linked twisting somersaults followed by a double somersault, landing near perfectly in both runs, these were awarded a combined score of 60.80,1.5 marks ahead of his nearest competitor making him British Champion for 2012.

Ian Matthews, (Charlie’s coach and former World and European medal winner) said “Charlie’s performance reflects the hard work and effort both Charlie and the coaching team have spent preparing for this competition, we are now looking at bettering his present World ranking of 6th in the next World Championships to be held in Bulgaria 2013”
